Sustainable raw materials

At Think!, natural, renewable materials take center stage. From leather and lining to soles, insoles, and details: we select our raw materials with the utmost care and process them as gently as possible.

Sustainable leather processing

At Think!, leather is not just any material, but the heart of every shoe. We mainly use chrome-free tanned leather, which is treated with vegetable or synthetic tanning agents. This creates a durable, skin-friendly material with natural breathability and high wear resistance.

But we go one step further:

With the innovative Zeology® tanning process, we are setting new standards in environmentally friendly leather processing. This process does not use any chrome, heavy metals or aldehydes – and produces particularly high-quality, durable leather. The result is a product that impresses not only with its quality but also with its sustainability – once again underlining our pioneering role in the European footwear industry.

Strict controls on harmful substances

Anything that comes into contact with the skin must be safe. Think! has defined its own strict standards in this regard, which set far higher limit values than those stipulated by legislators or quality seals. In addition, our standards exceed legal requirements. Our materials are regularly tested for heavy metals, chlorinated phenols, and other critical substances, and the processed leather is tested according to ISO testing procedures.

Lining materials

We don't compromise on the inner workings either. Everything that comes into direct contact with the skin must be breathable and free of harmful substances in Think! shoes. That's why we primarily use chrome-free tanned leather as our lining material. For winter, we also use chrome-free lambskin, virgin wool, or loden from the traditional Austrian manufacturer Steiner. Loden is also made from 100% virgin wool, ensures a comfortable foot climate, is heat-insulating, and durable—making it a perfect, long-lasting, and sustainable material for durable and sustainable shoes.

Tip:

If you see a green logo inside Think! shoes, it means that the leather has been tanned using vegetable-based, chrome-free methods. This naturally tanned material is particularly skin-friendly and environmentally conscious—but it also requires gentle care.

Sustainable shoelaces

We consider sustainability down to the smallest detail and even one step further. That's why our shoelaces are made from 100% cotton. Even the red ends typical of Think! are not made from plastic but from natural cellulose.

Interchangeable cork footbeds

Our primary goal is to use only natural materials wherever possible. That's why we equip our Think! shoes with cork footbeds. Cork absorbs moisture perfectly and transports it away from the body. This keeps your feet dry all day long. Another practical feature: the footbeds are removable and can be replaced with orthopedic insoles if necessary.

Durable soles

Think! Soles must be lightweight, flexible, and durable—and, depending on the model, also slip-resistant and heat-insulating. We develop the right sole for each model, using high-quality materials such as rubber, EVA, or PU—some of which contain certified natural components.

And if a sole ever wears out, it can be easily replaced. This is how we extend the life of our shoes – step by step.
